True Value Hardware Stores

True Value hardware and appliance store is one of the retail business units of the True Value Company, one of the largest hardware cooperatives in the world based in Chicago, Illinois. It is originally known in 1948 as Cotter & Company, with only 12 original co-op members.  Eventually, they merged and bought a number of other smaller hardware stores.  These include the1962 purchase of the Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Company who owned the True Value trademark.  After many years and operations issues, the company formally assumed the True Value name and corporate identity in 2006.

From a mere 25 cooperative members in 1948, the business now thrives with over 6,000 independent True Value hardware retailers across the world through its 12 regional distributor centers.

True Value hardware stores boast of an extensive stock of well-known American brands reaching thousands in units.  Likewise, it also carries private labels that have found their way into most American homes today.  These exclusive brands include, among others, Master Mechanic, Green Thumb, Master Plumber and the flagship True Value brands.

The successful repeat business generally exhibited by True Value hardware is credited to the homegrown True Value brand which makes product differentiation possible from similar market segments.  The True Value logo carries with it a name recall of trust, quality, reliability and cost-efficiency for its customers.

Generally, True Value hardware store’s exclusive labels afford customers great savings compare to national brands, without sacrificing quality. The company is bent on developing more brands across all hardware products, still in support of its retailers and to help boost sales for them.  This is in line with the commitment of turning True Value hardware store into a total builder’s haven, from creative hobbyists and do-it-yourself enthusiasts to industrial contractors and commercial builders.  The same is true for its affiliate networks, the Home and Garden Showplace garden store and the Green Thumb which sells plant products.
